Manchester Season: Craig Ogden, guitar
Tippett Concerto for Double String Orchestra | Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez | Andy Scott Guitar Concerto – World Premiere | Mozart Symphony No 31 ‘Paris’
NCO returns to The Stoller Hall with a concert featuring the Australian guitarist, Craig Ogden, in a performance of two guitar concertos; the Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez, and the world premiere of Andy Scott’s concerto written specifically for Craig.
The concert opens with a chance to see the result of the NCO’s partnership with Chetham’s as some of the school’s young string players sit side-by-side with the professional players. Together they form the orchestra in a performance of Tippett’s Concerto for Double String Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Threlfall. Completing the programme is one of the grandest and most beautifully crafted symphonies that Mozart ever wrote – his Paris Symphony.
In the two videos below, hear Craig provide a sneak peek of the never before heard concerto by Andy Scott, and listen to his thoughts on the classic Concierto de Aranjuez by Rodrigo.
