Concerts for care home residents

Music in the Community

Throughout the Northern Chamber Orchestra’s 2018-19 season, we have been proud and honoured to bring live classical music into the community, reaching school pupils across all key stages and residents in care homes who are living with dementia.

During the first week of June, Naomi Atherton (horn), James Manson (double bass), Paula Smart (violin) and Louise Latham (violin) visited care homes in Disley, Stockport, Bowdon and Eccles. The sessions included singing familiar songs with the residents, some short performances, and interactive activities with percussion instruments.

A staff member at The Meadows Care Home in Stockport said of the sessions, “I would just like to say a huge thank you to the musicians who came to Saffron Ward yesterday here at The Meadows. They were absolutely amazing with the patients,  getting them to join in with the singing and the instruments, the patients and staff  really enjoyed it.” A staff member at Arden Court in Eccles said, “thank you so much for the music today, the residents loved it.  The musicians were fantastic.”

Our Mind Music and School Workshop sessions are ongoing throughout the year. If you would like to find out more about bringing our talented musicians to you, or would like to financially support some sessions, please contact education@ncorch.co.uk or call 0161 247 2220.

We would like to thank CDL Software and ForViva for their ongoing support and sponsorship of our Education and Outreach programme.
