Northern Chamber Orchestra Announces New Artistic Leadership

The Northern Chamber Orchestra (NCO) is thrilled to announce the appointment of two distinguished artistic leaders: Zoë Beyers as Music Director and Sarah Brandwood-Spencer as Associate Director. Both bring extensive experience and a dynamic vision that promises to propel the orchestra into an exciting future.

Zoë Beyers expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I am thrilled to join the Northern Chamber Orchestra at this pivotal time. Together, we will explore new artistic horizons and engage with audiences in innovative ways.” In 2020, Zoë was appointed leader of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and appears regularly as guest leader with many other orchestras including the Hallé, RLPO, BBC Symphony, CBSO, Philharmonia and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Sarah Brandwood-Spencer echoed this sentiment, adding, “It’s an incredible opportunity to work alongside Zoë and the talented musicians of the orchestra. I look forward to contributing to the orchestra’s ongoing success and helping to foster a deeper connection with our audiences and participants.” Having graced stages across the globe as principal and soloist with the European Union Chamber Orchestra, and previously holding the prestigious position of principal violinist with the Hallé Orchestra, Sarah now performs as guest principal with some of the nation’s foremost orchestras.

Both Zoë and Sarah say they are honoured to lead an orchestra with such a rich tradition of musical excellence. Sarah added, “Our professional paths have crossed many times, and we have long admired each other’s work. We are thrilled to have been offered the opportunity to work closely and create more memorable musical experiences together.”

Charlie Rowley, CEO of the Northern Chamber Orchestra, shared his excitement: “On behalf of the players and Board, I think I can safely say that we have our ‘Dream Team’ in place. In Zoë and Sarah, we have an artistic leadership of the quality that our audiences and players deserve. Both are outstanding musicians and inspirational leaders. We couldn’t be happier.”

The new season will kick off with Sarah Brandwood-Spencer directing the opening concert (Mozart on Tour ‘Paris’, featuring the Manchester Chamber Choir) on Saturday, September 28th, followed by Zoë Beyers leading the second concert (Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, featuring violinist Jennifer Pike) on Saturday, November 2nd. Both concerts will be held at The Kings School in Macclesfield. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.ncorch.co.uk.
