Baroque meets Tango

Piazzolla Quatro Estaciones Portenas (Four Seasons of Buenos Aires)
Vivaldi Four Seasons
Saturday 18 February 2023 7.30pm
The King’s School, Macclesfield
Antonio Vivaldi died a pauper in Vienna in 1741. Had he been alive today, the royalties from The Four Seasons would undoubtedly have made him a rich man. One of the best-known works in the repertoire, it needs no introduction. The same cannot be said of its contemporary counterpart, The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, composed by the Argentinian, Astor Piazzolla, between 1965 and 1970. Take Vivaldi’s composition, quote from it, add the Argentine Tango and develop the mix into a unified whole. The result is absolutely unforgettable.
Sophie Rosa has a varied career as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader. She has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata, released several CDs and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
