The Phillip Rose Memorial Concert
Phillip Rose, a much-loved member of the Manchester Jewish community, passed away in March 2022. Among his many passions was his love for the classical chazonus of yesteryear as performed by the cantors of the ‘Golden Era’.
As a leading member of the Heathlands Shul for five decades as well as a lifetime chorister in the Manchester Jewish Male Voice Choir, this gala musical evening pays tribute to Phillip’s memory and life in the presence of his family and many friends.
Cantor Israel Nachman
Cantor Israel Nachman is a world-renowned cantor whose music inspires and thrills. His craft of Jewish liturgical music has been described as “…emotionally moving, spiritually uplifting and artistically dynamic.”
Cantor Nachman grew up in Israel, where his grandfather, also a cantor, inspired him to continue his passion and inclination for poetry and music. After graduating from Eli Yaffe’s famous Petach Tikva Singing Institute, he continued to study with some of the top cantors in the world. Cantor Nachman served as senior cantor for six years at the Tel Aviv International Synagogue and has performed in more than seventeen countries.
Shimon Craimer
Shimon Craimer was born in London and studied music at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2018 he moved to Israel having spent 15 years in New York as the Chazzan of the Riverdale Jewish Center. Shimon possess a beautiful Tenor voice and is an accomplished pianist.
Shimon travels the world leading synagogue prayers and performing in concerts, simchas and events with many Jewish orchestras and ensembles and has released a number of albums while continuing to produce new music each year.
Northern Chamber Orchestra
The Northern Chamber Orchestra (NCO) was established in 1967 and today comprises approximately 25 distinguished chamber musicians with more than 30 critically-acclaimed recordings to its name, and a name respected across the world. While excelling in wide range of repertoire, the NCO enjoys opportunities to premiere new works by contemporary composers, such as Adam Gorb, Anthony Gilbert and David Ellis.
Tim Dempsey
Tim conducted classical and jazz ensembles at The Manchester Grammar School before developing a passion for chazonus. Aged 20, he assumed direction of the Whitefield Shul Choir, creating a partnership with world-famous Chazan Yossi Muller which lasted for 18 years, producing several recordings and international concerts. A musician and composer, Tim has also performed with Chazanim Yaakov Motzen, Simon Cohen, Netanel Hershtik and Benjamin Muller, in both shul and concert settings.
